Market Analysis Procedures (D) Working Group
Market Regulation and Consumer Affairs (D) Committee

The NAIC's Market Analysis Procedures Working Group (MAP) is the national forum for states to share and coordinate their market analysis programs. MAP reviews and coordinates state market analysis programs and sets priorities for uniform, nationwide analysis using their adopted Framework for Market Analysis.

For 2009, MAP is charged with:

  • Finalizing the CDS Manual by the Summer National Meeting.
  • Establishing a priority list of new data elements and lines of business to be centrally collected and incorporated into new and existing NAIC systems by the Fall National Meeting.
  • Developing detailed enhancements to the market analysis chapters (Baseline, Level 1, and Level 2) of the Market Regulation Handbook by the Winter National Meeting.
  • Overseeing ongoing enhancements of market tools via the Market Analysis Research & Development Focus Group.

MAP is chaired by Leslie Krier (WA) and vice-chaired by Maria Chavira (AZ). MAP works closely with the Market Analysis (D) Working Group (MAWG) and the Market Regulation Handbook (D) Working Group.

MARD
The Market Analysis Research & Development (MARD) Focus Group reports to MAP and is charged with overseeing enhancements to market analysis related tools (such as the Market Analysis Prioritization Tool and Market Analysis Review System).

MARD's Complaint Coding Implementation Plan was adopted at the 2008 Winter National Meeting.

MCAS
MAP is responsible for overseeing the Market Conduct Annual Statement (MCAS) definitions and data elements. For additional information regarding MCAS, click on the following link: MCAS.

MACs
The Market Analysis Chiefs (MAC) is the principal liaison with the NAIC Market Analysis Department and the MAP (D) Working Group.

Market Analysis Review System (MARS)
The Market Analysis Review System (MARS) is designed to document that a review was performed on select insurance companies, as well as to document a market analyst’s input, conclusions, and recommended next steps. The analysis should be completed using information currently available to a state without contacting a company.

MAP has adopted the following recommended numbers of Level 1 Analysis Reviews to be completed between July 1 and June 30 of each year.
